Unborn Is Forever There

… If a human being is trying to figure out his interpretation, he will not succeed, because the very intellect or mind doing the interpretation is not one hundred percent permanent. If that which is not permanent becomes the tool, or I, and it interprets, then everything will be non-permanent. Therefore that which is not permanent cannot be made good to finalize that “This is Self.” The mind is not permanent, because in the evening it is not. But that which is there in the evening, when the mind is not, that is permanent; in the morning, when the mind has yet not come, it is permanent; and in deep sleep, when the mind was not there for you to understand, it is permanent. That which is permanent cannot be treated as final by the mind, ego, or intellect. It is Forever. So when you know that you are the mind, then you cannot say you are Forever. …

How, with human mental awareness, can a human being say, “I am not born”?
Such as Sheila asks, “Do you think I am Unborn?” So she thinks that Unborn should be interpreted in the light of being born. To her, that which is born is Sheila, and Unborn is when she was not. Whereas this is not being said. But that is the only meaning which you understand after hearing “Unborn.” To you, Unborn is being given, as a word for you to understand, for that which is not there. Like at this time, a rabbit is not born—because I said that a rabbit is not born, then I made a rabbit [he draws a rabbit in the space before him], and then I said it is not born. Then you can understand me. But if I do not say “rabbit,” you do not interpret this [indicating the space before him], that it is forever there. That which is Forever there is the meaning of Unborn. So in human analysis, this is a drawback. …

When I have talked, you have grasped it. And I leave it like this. But you are not sure. Therefore, you want to hear it again. So we are bringing in the point that you should be sure enough that it is not very difficult: Close the eyes, it is there. Open the eyes, it is there. It is there. But now, it is in it. So whatever examples are being made are in the field of duality, in the field of pritiyogi [opposites]. So when it is Maun [Absolute Silence], then again there is human difficulty, for he wants to hear it. … Your meaning of Maun is that you cannot be Maun if you speak. Whereas Maun means Forever. Maun means Unborn. …

[In response to the idea of growth through pain.] When more power, awareness, light, or enlightenment comes, then it works by itself. You have not to feel that I have to have acute pain and then the result will come. How? Take the example of the dream. In the dream, all the joys and experiences of sadness, of birth and death, all that happens. All kinds of things, even not of this world, that world comes. And you are not very comfortable by being in that situation, in the dream. But now, more power comes. How? You wake up. Just by being awake—there is no pain that you have to go through—you know that the dream figures were never there. So by saying, “I am not there, I am not there, I am not there; I am not these dream figures, I am not these dream figures, I am not these dream figures,” suppose you woke up. Then that power says, ”Why do I have to struggle saying ‘I am not this thing, I am not this thing’? The Self is already there. So why do I have to deny this, that ‘I am not there, I am not there’?” Right? That is called Awakening. … What I expect for you is to be free first, knowing that “I am I.” Then you can know, “How am I a body in the morning?” Then you can say, “Well, I myself release the waking state, and the function of the waking state is imagination. And from this imagination, we make this and that, relations and everything”—but you are knowing. If you are knowing that “I am Free,” the result will be that wherever you are, in whatever situation you are, you are always Free. …

You say, “Swamiji, now tell me something about how I should grow?” Then I say, “Adopt the means.” And the means for a human being are only two: Love or Knowledge. These are two means. When they are utilized, then the result will be that Freedom which you want. There are two means. There are no other means—for a human being. What are they? Knowledge is “All that which is changing and dying, I know.” That is Knowledge. And Love is, “That which never changes, I love it.” [He snaps his fingers.] You are realized. That’s all. How simple! But what are people doing? They are totally opposite. They love all that which is changing. Right? And they know that all that which they possess will remain permanently. So then Knowledge and Love do not work for them. Because they are using love and knowledge based on the mind, which means imagination. …
